 Summer Reading Program

One (1) book report will be due on the first day of school (Monday, August 13). This will be the first grade of the new school year. Also, for each book report turned in on August 13 the student’s name will be placed in a box for a drawing on the Tuesday, August 14. The prize for this drawing has yet to be determined but so far the general consensus is that money appeals to every student no matter the age. Last year’s prize was an iPad. Mr. Cox is checking in to the possibility of getting tickets to an Astros home game. There will be two prizes awarded, one for the 1st through 6th grade department and one for the 7th through 12th grade department. There is also some conversation about rewarding those who read more than five (5) books over the summer.

Here’s the catch, all books read must be on the school’s reading list. If the book is not on the reading list it will not be counted as a grade or as a bonus report for extra prizes. You should be able to find many of the listed books at your public library, if not I know you can find them at a local or online bookstore. Most of this reading list is from a book entitled "Honey for a Child’s Heart." The desire is for this summer reading project to help the students read more but also to help them read things that will encourage them and draw them closer to our Lord, so I recognize that some outlets will not have these books but just be diligent in your search. You will notice that the reading list is categorized in rather broad age groups, please pay attention to the book chosen because some of the books will be beneath your child’s reading level. Please feel free to move up an age category if you feel the list is too easy for your student(s).

As mentioned we are continually working to add new books to the list for our Summer Reading Program.  The books listed on Reading List 2 should be easier to find at your public library and still have the encouraging, uplifting message for our children and young people.  Please note that some of the books on Reading List 2 may also be on the previous list, we will correct any duplications when the office staff returns during the shool year.
